FØROYSKT:

Ein av queer-klassikarunum er filmurin Paris is Burning frá 1991. KIKI verður sæddur sum ein nútíðar-útlegging. Hvussu trívist latín- og afroamerikanskur queer-ungdómur í gøtunum í New York í hesum døgum? Hvørjum brenna tey fyri? Hvar koma tey saman?

ENGLISH:

One of the great classics in queer cinema is Paris is Burning from 1991. KIKI can be regarded as a present-day version. How is the queer African-American and Latino youth on the streets of New York doing now? What causes are they passionate about? How do they gather?

Through the work of a few community pillars, the tradition of Drag Balls are kept alive with the birthplace of vogueing, made famous by Madonna. We follow these activists and leaders, as they strive to keep the local kids away from crime and drugs, and create a family for those who have none. This documentary is a moving portrait of people who find strength in adversity with the support they give to each other. -(BY)

Leikarar/Cast: Fawzia Mirza, Shabana Azmi, Sari Sanchez, Audrey Francis, Charin Alvarez, Molly Brennan, and Mark Hood

FØROYSKT:

Zaynab er queer, pakistani, muslim og advokatur. Hon er stuttlig og passaliga snedig, so hyggjarin gerst beinanvegin púra burtur í henni. Meðan Zaynab stríðist við, at mamma hennara, sum elskar melodramatiskar sjónvarpssendirøðir, er flutt inn hjá sær, noyðist hon eisini at fjala hennara nýggjasta hobby: Lucha Libre-wrestling. Dag og dagliga grenjar mamma hennara um, hví Zaynab enn ikki hevur funnið sær ein mann. Alt gerst ikki lættari fyri hana, tá ið hon møtir Almu, ein meksikonsk gudinna, sum, í mun til Zaynab, er fræls og hevur eitt gott samband við mammu sína. Zaynab og Alma gerast væl. Tú kanst vænta at bresta útúr, meðan Zaynab roynir at fáa tamarhald á støðuni við mammuni øðrumegin og hinumegin…

ENGLISH:

Zaynab is a queer, Pakistani, Muslim lawyer, who is a funny and awkward character, to which we quickly fall in love. Between juggling her soap-opera obsessed mother, who has moved in, she is trying to hide her new hobby: Lucha Libre wrestling. With daily rants about finding a husband, her sexual orientation is not exactly a conversation she is ready to have yet. Things don’t get any easier when Alma comes in the picture. This Mexican, free-spirited goddess, who unlike Zaynab, is free and has a great relationship with her mother. What starts out as a casual hookup, eventually grows deeper. The laughter is not spared and we see how she handles being caught between two strong women; one, her mother, and, the other…well you’ll see…

Signature Move is more than just a funny, romantic comedy; it’s about relationships, family, and finding common ground across cultures and experiences. A must-see film, if you are looking to be entertained, whilst moved.
