Spurningar & Svar við leikstjóran eftir sýningina / Q&A with the director after the screening

Føroyskt:

Hvat er støðan hjá LGBTQ+ rørsluni nú 50 ár eftir Stonewall? Heimildarfilmurin hjá Ashley Joiner tekur okkum við á ferð í gjøgnum sjáldsamar upptøkur og samrøður. Vit síggja bæði myndir frá søguligum løtum fyri LGBTQ+ rørsluna í vesturlondum við Stóra Bretland í miðdeplinum og samrøður við núverandi aktivistar. Hóast nógv framgongd hevur verið, kenna ikki øll innan rørsluna seg hoyrdan, og hevur hetta havt við sær, at tey hava tikið stig til nýggj tiltøk sum Trans Pride Brighton og Black Pride. Hvønn týdning hevur Pride í dag, og hvussu fer hetta at broytast í framtíðini?

Fyrsti filmurin hjá Ashley Joiner er ein nágreinilig rannsókn av nútíðar queer rørslum, ið leggur fram umráðandi spurningar, sum vanliga ikki verða umrøddir.

English:

Where has the LGBTQ+ movement reached 50 years after Stonewall? Ashley Joiner’s documentary takes us on a journey using rare footage and interviews. We see images from historical moments for the LGBTQ+ movement in the west with a focus on the UK, as well as talks with current-day activists. Although there has been a lot of progress, not everyone within the movement feels as though they are being heard, which has led some to start new events such as Trans Pride Brighton and Black Pride. What is the importance of Pride today, and how will it be in the future?

This is Ashley Joiner’s first feature, an in-depth investigation of today’s queer movements bringing up important matters that are not often discussed.

Føroyskt:

“Bucking” er heitið á einum dansi, sum tú heilt sikkurt hevur sæð, men sum tú aldrin hevur kenst við. 20 ár eftir, at dansurin varð skaptur av samkyndum afro-amerikonskum monnum í suðurstatunum í USA fyri at mótmæla at vera útihýstir frá cheerleading, hevur dansurin stigvíst vunnið sær høvd í mentanarliga meginstreyminum. Í New York dansaði mann vogue, men í suðurstatunum var “bucking” nummar eitt. Leikstjórin Jamal Sims hevur gjørt fleiri filmar um dans. Her gevur hann okkum ein hugkveikjandi heimildarfilm, sum minnir okkum á, at tá ið samfelagið vísur okkum andstygd, skulu vit ikki lata okkum kúga, men heldur skulu vit mótmæla við at fylgja okkara hjørtum og huga.

English:

“Bucking” is a dance I guarantee you have seen, but probably never knew what was. 20 years after being created by gay African American men in the southern states of the US as a protest against exclusion from cheerleading, the dance style has slowly seeped into mainstream culture. In New York, voguing was the thing, but in the south “bucking” ruled. Director Jamal Sims has several dance films on his resume. Here he gives us an inspiring documentary reminding us that when society puts stigmas on us, you should just ignore them and follow your heart and passions in protest.
